Pithy Gen Z Slangs: The Introduction

We live in an era of slang, where Gen Z to millennials uses slang in their daily lives. Maybe to look cool or an outcome of laziness, we all use it.

Slangs are the new hip. No, I do not mean the actual meaning of hip but the slang hip which portrays the meaning of “cool”. To keep up with the current generation it is quite necessary that we know the slang and its meanings. Although such lingo would not exist until people see it and come across it.

Like such millesimal idioms, there are certain other things that the Gen Z era has brought upon us. There are certain trends or habits which are growing popular in today’s world which aren’t always liked by everyone but still they are done to peer pressure.

For example: Imagine you do not like to party but if the group you belong to enjoys partying and does it on a regular basis but just to fit in the group you go with them even when you do not enjoy it.

But, why do we do certain practices even after disliking them? Is it just to fit in our peer groups? Is it because of fear of missing out on the millennial trends? If yes, then let’s get introduced to the joy of letting out our feelings and emotions we feel being under the burden of societal expectations because you only live once and thus you should do things in your own way where you get to enjoy. Let’s keep it 100, let’s keep it real because in the end it is just you, and let us bring the confidence of “it me”.

In this series of “Pithy Gen Z Slangs,” we are going to talk about certain slangs which will help us not bound ourselves with the widespread issues faced by all ages.

There are going to be five blogs covered in this series:

  1. FOMO: Fear of missing out
  2. JOLO: Joy of letting out
  3. YOLO: You only live once
  4. Keep It 100: Keep it real
  5. It Me: Self-identification.
