Fighting the darkness

Depression is not just a word, it’s an extremely hopeless feeling where nothing seems
exciting enough. You don’t feel like getting up from your bed, you feel useless, you get
pissed at majority instance and you feel you have no goal in life.

We cannot compare normal sadness to DEPRESSION. Majority of the mass misunderstand normal melancholy with depression, just feeling unhappy over casual occurrence is not called being depressed.

Depression is an awful feeling and I personally feel that no one should go through it.
You feel nothing, neither happy nor sad, you just know you are living your life but you don’t
enjoy living it, it feels like no more colours are left in your life and feels more like a black
and white film. People with depression often see the world in negative light. They can be
overly critical of themselves and feel worthless and unloved. They may feel overwhelmed
by small problems the rest of us take in stride. They feel like giving up. They pull away from
people and drop out of activities, but this isolates them and makes them feel worse.

According to the modern studies we have found that women feel double the depression felt by men.

Hopelessness, discontent, guilt and anxiety is felt. Many people lose their appetite causing
excessive weight loss. Unreasonable is no less than being in any other disease. It takes a lot of effort and will power for the person to overcome their depression.
Depression can be caused due to many reasons like:
1) Death in family
2) Bullying
3) Sexual abuse
4) Peer pressure 5) Serious illness
6) Major events

The person feels burdened and gets suicidal thoughts to achieve pacifism. During the
constant rush of destructive feeling it is necessary to not pursue them and instead learn
controlling them so that we don’t end up hurting ourselves. While feeling totally
hopeless we need to have at least 5% of hope living life which can be more than
sufficient survive through our rough patch.

Surviving through depression is incredibly hard and many people end up harming their
own body in either ways, it feels like punishing ourselves and so cuts on body, losing
appetite, forcing ourselves to do things we do not like are often practiced.

We feel like punishing ourselves by cutting hands or being suicidal which makes us
happy as we think it is necessary to punish ourselves, but that is the worst thing we can
ever do to our own selves. It gets like an addiction, whenever we feel low we do cuts. A
cut not only causes scars but can cause many deadly skin diseases like NECTROTIZING
FASCIITIS also known as flesh eating bacteria. So it’s important for us to understand
that hurting our very own selves is an insane decision, rather than bruising ourselves
we can remove our rage on non-living objects like pillows or punching bags which can
be the best option available.

If we ever find anyone having symptoms of depression we should support that person to
the best and suggest them a therapist or a counselor. In our Indian society people are
living in a myth that people having psychological problems only visit a therapist.
Counselor and therapists are licensed mental health professionals who specialize in
helping clients develop better cognitive and emotional skills, reduce symptoms of
mental illness, and cope with various life challenges to improve our lives.
Majority of people who were passing through the depressed phase and consulted a
counselor have fought over their depression in a better way. There should be no shame
to visit and seek for help when we are depressed.

Effective ways to treat depression-
Untreated depression can be extremely debilitating to an individual, interfering with every
part of our life. In addition, severe depression can potentially lead to suicide if it does not
receive immediate attention. Few things which can help us fight depression are:
– Physical activities can help decrease the symptoms due to release of neurotropic
proteins in brain.
– Yoga could be practiced as it is considered as an ancillary treatment option for the
patients with depressive order.
– Reminiscence of old and fond memories is another alternative form of treatment. IT
is a method that causes a person to recollect memories of their life, leading to a
process of self-recognition and identifying familiar stimuli.
– Know that today isn’t indicative of tomorrow. Give yourself the grace to accept that
while some days will be difficult, some days will also be great. Try to look forward to
tomorrow’s fresh start.
– Do the opposite of what the ‘depression voice’s suggests.
– Set attainable goals.

Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, estimates that it affects more than
300 million people worldwide including women, young people and most affected to
teenagers. Majority of teenagers go in depression nowadays because of increased bullying, cyber bullying, body shaming unfriendly drug addiction and more. To prevent depression such causes should be paid attention upon and tried to be reduced.
